Backroad Hats

The Backroad Hat is worked in the round from brim to crown, with two di erent options for the crown decreases. The Slip Stitch Rib is a very stretchy stitch pattern that works well with variegated yarn, making this a versatile hat that will work for most adult sizes and a variety of worsted weight yarns. Pattern directions are both charted and written. Matching hat and scarf/cowl patterns are also available.

Version 1 (subtle crown decreases, shown in variegated yarn):

Finished size: 18.25”/46.5cm circumference, 8.5”/21.5cm tall

Yarn: Widdershin Woolworks Targhee Worsted (100% Targhee; 200 yd [183m]/3.14 oz [89g]): 1 skein or 104 yd/95m

Needles: US7/4.5mm 16”/40cm circular & dpns

Gauge: 21 sts & 31 rnds = 4 inches/10cm in slip stitch rib

Version 2 (strong crown decreases, shown in semisolid yarn):

Finished size: 19.25”/49cm circumference, 7.75”/19.5cm tall

Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted (100% merino wool; 210 yd [192 m]/3.5 oz [100 g]): 1 skein or 118 yd/108m

Needles: US6/4.0mm 16”/40cm circular & dpns

Gauge: 20 sts & 32 rnds 4 inches/10cm in slip stitch rib
