Contrariwise is worked in the round from brim to crown, using heavy fingering/light sport weight yarn. The pattern includes two sizes, and offers instructions for a brim with or without a contrasting hem, a slouchy or beanie style hat, and tips on further adjusting the hat depth. The colourwork section and crown decreases are charted only.

Finished size: 19.5 (22)” / 49.5 (56) cm circumference in colourwork section; 8 (10)” / 20.5 (25.5) cm depth (Depth is adjustable.)

Yarn: Sunday Knits 3-ply (246 yd/225 m per 50g) or Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool (100% superwash wool; 200 yds/183m per 2 oz./60g): 145 yds/133m MC, 115 yds/105m CC, 40 yds/37m for the optional hem

Needles: US 2 1⁄2 /3.0mm 16”/40cm circular needle; US3/3.25mm 16”/40cm circular needle & dpns; plus US2/2.75mm 16”/40cm circular needle if doing hem

Gauge: 29.5 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stranded colourwork on largest needles
